Muskegon Souvenirs

Before t-shirts and shot glasses, these souvenir items reminded visitors of good times in Muskegon County!

Cream Pitcher Cream Pitcher Pressed glass “Muskegon” souvenir cream pitcher. These mass-produced souvenirs were popular with many visitors and took a variety of forms, including decorative drink ware, tea services and bud vases.
 
Goblet Goblet Red pressed glass souvenir goblet, the color is painted onto a clear glass surface.  These were meant for decoration, not for drink ware.
 
Mug Mug Promotional Mug from the SS Milwaukee Clipper, ca 2000.  Drink ware is a popular souvenir item for today’s traveler.

Fingertip Towel Fingertip Towel Like many Michigan communities, Muskegon held a special celebration on the 100th anniversary of statehood.  This commemorative tea towel was sold at the Muskegon Centennial Celebration, 1937.

Mug Mug The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) hosted Civil War veteran’s reunion encampments in 1891 and again in 1903.  This mug is a souvenir purchased to commemorate one of those events.
 
Penny Penny Souvenir penny from Lake Michigan Park, ca 1920s.  Lake Michigan Park began as a city beach in the 1890s. By the turn of the Century, it was advertised as the “Coney Island of the West”and boasted a roller coaster, boardwalk and large pavilion.  It was renamed Pere Marquette Park in 1927.

Teaspoon Teaspoon Local shops carried commemorative spoons stamped with the image of the Hackley Public Library.  This one is engraved “From Hackley to Munroe.”  It was given to Mr. Munroe about 1902.
 
Ashtray Ashtray Ashtray from the Lake Harbor Hotel on Mona Lake, ca 1890.  This may have been in a room or an item sold in the hotel souvenir shop.
 
Paperweight Paperweight Photo of Soldiers and Sailors monument in Hackley Park encased in glass paperweight.  The monument was dedicated in 1889, this paperweight was probably produced around 1900.
